Douglas, the capital of the Isle of Man, is a
unique blend of holiday resort, finance centre and working harbour, and as
such, offers the visitor a wealth of things to do. It is here, in the
pedestrianised shopping centre, that you may find many of the major high street
stores, plus a number of specialist shops where you'll find many examples of
local handcrafted items.
 |
The Summerland complex at one end of town has a leisure
suite, and recently expanded children's adventure play area 'Manxland', cinema,
cabaret shows and much more, while at the Douglas harbour end, is the railway
station where you can board a vintage steam train to transport you through
magnificent countryside to Port
Erin.
A trip along Douglas Promenade is a must in the
world's oldest horsedrawn trams. The town also has a casino, the superb
Gaiety Theatre, Noble's Park with its range of amusements, the
splendidly maintained gardens of the Villa Marina - the venue for many summer
productions - and the outstanding, award winning Manx Museum where
visitors can discover the amazing Story of Mann, spanning thousands of
years.
Douglas is also where you can step aboard the Manx
Electric Railway to Laxey and Ramsey, or
where you can sample a whole range of inspired cuisine, play golf or simply
stroll along the promenade, gaze out to sea and begin to discover the true
meaning of 'time enough' or, in Manx Gaelic, 'traa dy liooar'. |
