Keeping that web page open When you are
searching for web sites in a search engine, do you ever find it annoying to
lose the original page listing all the possible links to where you might want
to go? Try this tip: if you right-click on the links that you wish to check
out, rather than clicking straight on them, you can tell your browser to open
the link in a new window. If it's a site that you like, you can bookmark it. If
not, you can just close the window and you won't lose the original search
engine page.
Power Browsing It's actually pretty handy to
keep several browser windows open, so that you can surf different sites at the
same time! While you are waiting for one page to load, you can be reading
another one!
Open a new window To open up a new browser
window, you can also use the /File/New/Window feature in your browser's menu.
If you are using Netscape go to File and choose "New window".
404
File Not Found Errors Try retyping the URL or deleting the portion of
the URL that follows the last slash.
Getting more out of your
search When using a search engine to find information, type quotation
marks around a phrase in order to get the engine to search for the exact
phrase. This will give you a list of all the sites containing this exact
phrase. i.e: "the laxey wheel".
Tailoring your windows To
resize a window, go to the right top corner of your browser and click on the
Maximize/Restore button. This button will automatically give you two default
sizes: full screen (Maximized) and 3/4 of screen (Restored). If you want to
resize your window to a particular size, click on the Restore button to make
the window 3/4 of the of it's full size, and drag the right bottom corner of
the window anywhere on the screen.
Keeping in touch with
History To view one of the last nine pages you visited recently, click
the arrow to the side of the Back or Forward button, and then click the page
you want to see from the list. If you are using Netscape click and hold the
Back or Forward button and then click the page you want to see from the list.
