Floyd's Beginners Guide to Email

Email is the most immediately useful part of the Internet, and a major reason a lot of people get connected in the first place.
When you sign up with IofM.net you get an Internet Mail Account. This enables you to swap emails with anyone else in the world with an Internet account. All you need to do is connect to IofM.net which forwards all email addressed to you and your computer. It also passes on your email to its final destination.
In this quick Guide were going to use an email program called
Outlook Express
.

STEP ONE
Open Outlook Express email program by clicking on the icon on your PC Desktop, or by clicking on the 'start' button and choosing 'Programs', then Internet Explorer, then 'Outlook Express'.

STEP TWO
When the program opens the main functions are featured on the toolbars along the top and the pull-down menus. To write your first email, click on the icon named 'New Mail'.

STEP THREE
In the blank 'To' box, enter the email address of the person you want to send the message to. Make sure the email address is spelt correctly and the @ symbol is under the 'P' key.

STEP FOUR
Now give the email message a "Subject" and type the subject in. This subject is how the email will appear in other people's email "Inbox" If you don't enter a subject, Outlook Express will remind you.

STEP FIVE
Write the contents of your message in the big white area. You can be as formal or informal as you like, depending on who you are writing to. though it pays to be polite if your emailing a stranger.

STEP SIX
Before you send the message, check the spelling. Use the ABC button on the Outlook Express toolbar. Replace any words that need replacing by clicking change.

STEP SEVEN
To send the message, click the "Send" button The message moves to the "Outbox" folder. You should connect to IofM.net and the mail is then sent automatically.

STEP EIGHT
Its easy to see if a message has been sent or not. Look on the left-hand side of Outlook Express and you see a folder called "Sent Items". Click to open this and your message is in there.

STEP NINE
To see if you have any email, connect to IofM.net and open Outlook Express. Then click the "Send and Receive" button. Any new mail sent to you will be downloaded and stored in your email "Inbox". Click on a new message to read it.

STEP TEN
You can reply to message by simply clicking on the "Reply" button. A reply box will appear, quoting the original message. Start by typing at the end of the original message, where the arrows stop. Then click on "Send" and your reply is sent.
