Made without eggs, this
is an old recipe for a delicious rich, moist, fruit
loaf.
1 1/2 lb. Plain
Flour
1/2 lb. Large
Raisins
1/2 lb.
Currants
1/2 lb.
Sultanas
1/2 lb. Mixed
Peel
1/2 lb.
Sugar
10 oz. Butter or
Margarine
1/2 teaspoon of Mixed
Spice
1/2 Teaspoon of
Cinnamon
1 Tablespoon of
Syrup
2 Teaspoons of Bicrbonate of
Soda
1 Pint of
Buttermilk
Sieve dry ingredients
and rub in fat. Add sugar, mixed peel and fruit. Put bicarbonate of soda in a
basin, and mix smoothly with the milk. Pour into the dry ingredients. Finally,
add the syrup and mix thoroughly.
Put into a
greased baking tin. Bake in a moderate oven for two
hours.
